Cutscenes of the Patriots.
In case you hadn’t guessed the topic is Metal Gear Solid 4. Which I finished a couple of days ago. I must say. It was a damn good game. The last game that actually had me hooked like this was Mass Effect. Which I ended up playing through three times completely on Normal, Hardcore and Insanity doing almost all the missions.
The story is convoluted and all over the place. But no more than other MGS games and not enough to break it. Yes what they say about it is true. Half the time it feels like watching a movie. But that’s not exactly a bad thing. I was still being entertained and enjoyed watching all the many long cutscenes, so in my mind it was well worth it. I really hate to use the word as it’s kind of outdone its welcome these days; but from the end of Act III onwards it truly takes on an epic quality. Like watching a compelling Sci-Fi movie. Only it goes for much much longer than feature length. But that doesn’t matter as you hardly realise that much time has passed.
The game wraps up everything that came before it rather nicely, making up for the countless hours of vague and confusing crap that came from previous titles. Especially MGS2. Which was still a good game.
Speaking of Mass Effect earlier. New Trailer for ME2 was released today. I think my head is going to explode in anticipation.
In other unrelated news. I saw Star Trek XI (or is it just called STAR TREK to confuse people?) the other day. I quite enjoyed it. But it leaves me wondering what they’re going to do next. If they’ll make more series in the original universe. After all things have been shaken up a bit there so it’d provide for some interesting storylines I’d imagine. Or if they’ll continue on from the new one in which everything that happened after Enterprise no longer happened. If it’s the latter I can’t see the movie cast all getting in to do a 7-year TV series.
